I don’t know about you, but I spend way to much time thinking about myself and my own world. I am so wrapped up in how things effect me and what I want to do and what others think about me, that many times I miss the opportunities to minister to or love on someone around me…if you really think about it, that is pretty sad! You would think at some point I would get bored with myself and begin to think more about others! That’s not to say that I don’t have plenty of moments when I engage and look for how I can serve others, but I know I could certainly do it more…that’s for sure!
Jesus had plenty to say about caring for and putting the needs of others before ourselves and Paul hit the nail on the head in Phillipians 2:3,4 where he says:
3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
WOW! If that doesn’t challenge us to live more outside ourselves then I don’t know what does! In fairness, its not necessarily wrong to think about our own interests, but in this world that is so about me first and get what you can while you can it certainly couldn’t hurt to be a little more bored with ourselves and a little more interested in others!!! So, are you bored with yourself yet?
